Thus spake ex-VP and near-President Al Gore
The [Bush] administration works closely with a network of "rapid response" digital brownshirts who work to pressure reporters and their editors for "undermining support for our troops."
The thought that this mental case came within a hairbreadth of becoming the most powerful man on Earth is truly chilling. Although it must be said that Gore's descent into sheer lunacy is a recent phenomenon. James Taranto recalls a different, sane, Gore: a self-important pompous blowhead given to hyperbole, all right, but isn't that nearly a job requirement for a politician? ;-)
Or is Gore deliberately going loco in public in order to play to the Michael Mooreon audience (a classic exercise in preaching to the converted, and liable to drive away moderate fence-sitters)? Or, in a political "good cop/bad cop" routine, is he trying to make John Kerry appear reasonable in contrast?
The latter is a classic tactic of both the BBC and Flemish state TV: when accused of leftist/anti-Israel/anti-American/... bias, they trot out some complete nutburger who claims they're actually biased in the OTHER direction...
